It was torn down and somebody built a gas station and garage building on the spot. Carl either leased or bought it and turned it into a full service garage and handyman repair shop. Lone Pine was in a historically rich location near both Mt. Whithey, then the highest place in the USA, and Death Valley, the lowest place in the country. He spent a lot of time exploring the area. Many photographs chronicling his travels remain. Between 1920-1942, Carl moved the family to the redwood country in northern Califonia. He started the Wunderland Redwood Park in 1931 wich later became known as the Trees of Mystery. The park included interpretive trails, cottages, and gift shop. There was a very large wooden sculpture, "Teh End of the Trail" at the entrance to the park. Carl sold the Trees of Mystery after the bombing of Pear Harbor in December of 1941.

The children also worked on the family business wich led to some resentment. Vin left the park around 1935 and never came back. Clyde, whose plans for going to college were not going to be realized, left in 1937. He still came home to visit on occasion.

In 1951 Carl, by Court Order, was making support payments in the amount of
